A social with a difference
Many of us will remember a time when popular media was a shared, universal experience. Unlike the siloed digi-scape of today, if you wanted to listen to the lastest news headlines or chart hits you either had to tune into one of the big national radio stations, or wait till Thursday night to enjoy Top of the Pops on the box. Films were available on TV, but if you wanted anything remotely recent, it would require a family trip to the local Odeon or ABC — replete with the obligatory fizzy soda and overflowing tower of salty or sugary popcorn.
With the advent of streaming and the on-demand era however, much has changed. On any given night your family might be spread across several different rooms of the house: each with their own screen and with their own channel — and agenda — catered to.
But what if we could bring back the good times? What if all the advantages of modern digital could be leveraged to help unite and fortify the body of Christ? How would you feel about a church night out where we could enjoy both modern and classic films together on the big screen; not only as a point of social contact, but for discussion and edification?
